Cannabis Tincture Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 ounce of decarboxylated cannabis (about 28 grams)

  • 1 pint (16 fluid ounces) of high-proof alcohol (such as Everclear or a strong vodka)

Equipment:

  • Mason jar with a tight-fitting lid

  • Cheesecloth or coffee filter

  • Dark glass dropper bottles for storage

  • Funnel

Instructions:

  1. Decarboxylate the Cannabis:

    • Preheat your oven to 245°F (120°C).

    • Break up the cannabis into small pieces and spread them evenly on a baking sheet.

    • Bake for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cannabis should be golden brown. This process activates the THC and CBD in the cannabis.

  2. Combine Cannabis and Alcohol:

    • Place the decarboxylated cannabis in a mason jar.

    • Pour the high-proof alcohol over the cannabis, ensuring it is completely submerged.

    • Seal the jar tightly with the lid.

  3. Infuse the Mixture:

    • Store the jar in a cool, dark place.

    • Shake the jar once or twice a day for at least 2-4 weeks. The longer it infuses, the more potent the tincture will be.

  4. Strain the Tincture:

    • After the infusion period, strain the mixture through cheesecloth or a coffee filter into a clean container.

    • Use a funnel to transfer the filtered tincture into dark glass dropper bottles for storage. The dark glass helps protect the tincture from light degradation.

  5. Store:

    • Store the tincture in a cool, dark place. It can last for several months to years if stored properly.

Usage:

  • Use a dropper to measure out your desired dose. Start with a small amount (such as one dropperful) and gradually increase as needed.

  • The tincture can be taken sublingually (under the tongue) for faster absorption or added to food and beverages.

Notes:

  • The potency of the tincture will depend on the strength of the cannabis and the duration of the infusion.

  • Be sure to label the tincture clearly and keep it out of reach of children and pets.

  • Always use high-proof alcohol that is safe for consumption, as some types of alcohol are not suitable for making tinctures.
