Cannabis Tea Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 gram of decarboxylated cannabis (or more, depending on desired potency)

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, butter, or another fat source (to help extract the cannabinoids)

  • Tea bag of your choice (optional)

  • Honey, sugar, or other sweeteners to taste (optional)

Equipment:

  • Saucepan

  • Strainer or cheesecloth

  • Teapot or mug

Instructions:

  1. Decarboxylate the Cannabis:

    • Preheat your oven to 245°F (120°C).

    • Break up the cannabis into small pieces and spread it evenly on a baking sheet.

    • Bake for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cannabis should be golden brown. This process activates the THC and CBD in the cannabis.

  2. Boil Water:

    • Bring 1 cup of water to a boil in a saucepan.

  3. Add Fat Source:

    • Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, butter, or another fat source to the boiling water. This step is crucial because cannabinoids are fat-soluble, and the fat helps to extract them from the cannabis.

  4. Add Cannabis:

    • Once the fat has melted and mixed with the water, add the decarboxylated cannabis to the saucepan.

  5. Simmer:

    • Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Strain:

    • After simmering, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a teapot or mug, separating the liquid from the plant material.

  7. Optional: Add Tea Bag:

    • If you prefer, you can add a tea bag of your choice to the strained cannabis tea for additional flavor. Let it steep for a few minutes according to the tea’s instructions.

  8. Sweeten to Taste:

    • Add honey, sugar, or other sweeteners to taste if desired.

Notes:

  • Dosage: Start with a small amount of cannabis and see how it affects you before increasing the dosage.

  • Storage: Leftover cannabis tea can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat before drinking.

  • Effects: The onset of effects from cannabis tea may be slower compared to smoking or vaping, typically taking 30 minutes to 2 hours to feel the effects.

Enjoy your cannabis tea responsibly and ensure it is clearly labeled and stored away from children and pets.
